Abstract (at least 300 words to describe your proposal)

The massive research literature on human judgement and decision-making has given us terms like confirmation bias, cognitive dissonance, and attribution error. This short talk looks at some psychological biases and errors that can obstruct collaborative work of the type we do in Wikimedia. It assesses how well community policies and processes compensate for or minimise those biases. Some aspects of wiki collaboration minimise common biases, while other features make those biases more of a problem. I want to get the audience thinking in a concrete way about how these biases could be made less damaging.
