Abstract (at least 300 words to describe your proposal)

Participate, discuss, improve and connect - the (German language) Wikipedia cMOOC “Wiki-Dialog” (english: Wiki-Dialogue) intends to create a flexible way of improving Wikipedia and making it more inclusive!

MOOC stands for Massive Open Online Course - the format of Wikipedia MOOC follows the model of a Connectivist MOOC - a so called cMOOC (as opposed to xMOOC ) and provides a set of open and collaborative online meetings. Special attention in cMOOCs lies on networking and cooperation of the participants. Wikipedia MOOC is open to all interested Wikipedians. Everybody can find their own way of participating: e.g. actively discuss topics, just watch, share ideas or create new content with other participants.

Why are we doing this? Based on the results of the work of WMDE on gender diversity in Wikipedia and also of the many discussions and working groups at the Wikimedia Diversity Conference in November 2013 in Berlin, certain topics are mentioned again and yet again on which we should work, if we want to have an open and accessible Wikipedia. This includes topics such as welcome culture, acceptance, conflict management, questions about knowledge distortion and last but not least the way we communicate with each other.

In Wikipedia cMOOC “Wiki-Dialog” these issues are given a platform, where they can be discussed in more detail. This way networks can be formed, but also the results can be made available as open educational resources to others.

In short: Wikipedia cMOOC “Wiki-Dialog” intends to create a space, where solutions and skills concerning diversity are developed together. “Wiki-Dialog” will offer a fixed schedule with different topics. The schedule indicates a date, at which particular topic will be discussed in an online event with a workshop atmosphere.

This is an initiative of the Wikimedia chapters Germany, Austria and Switzerland and represents an offer to the German-speaking community. Together with volunteers online meetings will be developed and designed.

At Wikimania 2014, we would like to introduce you to this project and discuss it with you. We will talk about how a cMOOC can be designed and of course we introduce you to the German Wikipedia cMOOC “Wiki-Dialog”!
