Barbican Centre Collaborations
The Barbican Centre is not just a venue, but also a cultural institution with all kinds of initiatives of its own. Ed Saperia has been invited to become Wikimedian in Residence at The Barbican to facilitate interaction between the Centre and the Wikimedian community. Better integration with the activities at the venue will help our conference have more impact and create a lasting legacy.
If you have any suggestions for possible collaborations, please list them below:
Barbican Centre-City of London Library
The Barbican Centre has an excellent City of London Library, open to the general public. There should be an Editathon during Wikimania, perhaps in the evening, and a continuing GLAM style collaboration. --Dthomsen8 (talk) 16:12, 28 July 2013 (UTC)
- How about we build up a relationship with the librarians with this editathon as the culmination of that? EdSaperia (talk) 18:44, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
- I would enjoy an edit-a-thon/GLAM at the Barbican in the late evening.Geraldshields11 (talk) 14:46, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
- We have a whole section on libraries, and we will be migrating that page back to the Wikimedia UK wiki after Wikimania. I'm guessing that library visits are a much slower paced thing than core Wikimania events and that most of the people who use this will be people who arrive early or stay late and want the library that best matches their specialist interest. But I already have one offer of an event which I am considering for the 12th. Another reason not to do this during Wikimania or on the day after is that everything we run those days will be shown to over a thousand Wikimanians and really should be able to accommodate a hundred or more if they sign up for it. A specialist library might only be able to take a dozen people, so I'd rather not schedule that for the 8th-11th. Jonathan Cardy (WMUK) (talk) 15:00, 31 January 2014 (UTC)
- I agree; I think this will be more effective if the work done is educating the institution to make their processes more open, rather than organising wikimedian activity. An open institution with good content will naturally attract editors. EdSaperia (talk) 10:24, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
